This course is the primary linguistic introduction to the Dakota/Lakota phonetic system (i.e. its sounds and writing system). Special emphasis will be on developing a basic technical linguistic understanding of Dakota/Lakota phonology, the issues and difficulties associated with English speakers learning these sounds, and developing a professional approach to teaching these concepts.
This course may be taken in combination with other courses, or on its own. This course will appear on your Sitting Bull College transcript as LDL110 Očhéthi Šakówiŋ Phonology I.
